| Term | Definition |

| ACK | A general term used to indicate that a message is acknowledged. Whether the message has been successfully processed depends on the application. |
| Adult / ADT | A person who has reached their 12th birthday as of the date of commencement of travel. |
| Airline Designators (ICAO / IATA) | Codes assigned to aircraft operators by: • The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO codes) • The International Air Transport Association (IATA codes). Each airline has a unique ICAO and/or IATA code. |
| Allowance, Free Baggage | The baggage which may be carried without payment of a charge in addition to the fare. |
| API (Advance Passenger Information) | Passenger identification data sent to authorities in advance of arrival. It includes passport or travel document details and basic flight information, allowing authorities to pre-screen passengers for faster clearance and improved security. |
| ATD (Actual Time of Departure) | Defined by carrier procedures as wheels up, chocks off, or brakes off. Governments specify which definition applies for data transmission purposes. |
| Booking | See Passenger Name Record (PNR). |
| Carrier | Any air carrier that transports passengers and/or baggage or performs related services associated with air carriage. |
| Child / CHD | A person who has reached their second birthday but not their 12th birthday as of the date of commencement of travel. |
| Domestic Flight | A flight departing from and arriving in the same country. |
| EDIFACT | International UN standard for Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Defines syntax rules for structuring and exchanging business documents and files securely between organizations. |
| ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) | The forecast arrival time of a flight. |
| Flight Number | The numerical identification of a flight, consisting of one to four digits and an optional alphabetic suffix. |
| Infant / INF | A person who has not reached their second birthday as of the date of commencement of travel. |
| ISO | The International Organization for Standardization, which maintains global standards such as country codes. |
| Passenger / PAX | Any person, other than crew, carried or to be carried in an aircraft with the consent of the carrier. |
